About Us

The RSC League is a recreational and social squash league that runs every week at the Regina Squash Centre. It provides players who barely know which end of the racquet to hold with a chance to be on a team, see some good quality squash, get some free coaching and advice from teammates, and meet a bunch of other players at the same level.

Rules

Remember that we are all playing for fun and to display good sportsmanship at all times. If there is a dispute on a play and agreement cannot be reached, then simply replay the point. A match is never really lost because of one disputed call.

1. Scoring
Each games will be point-a-rally to 11 points, and players must win by two points (eg. 11-9, 13-11). The first person to win three games wins the match.

You get a point in league for each game you win, a point if you win the match, and a point for playing (or being available) on or before the scheduled date. The maximum points awarded each night per player is five (three for games, one for the match, and one for playing on or before the match's scheduled date.)

Once you're done, make sure you enter scores on the website so your team gets the points.

2. Court Time
Each match has a scheduled time and it is listed in the Member's Area. You must be at the club and ready to play at the designated time. There will be a clipboard where players and a player and their opponent will write down their names once they have both arrive at the courts.

The first available court will go to the first pair of names on the white board. Once the court becomes available, players are asked to cross their names off the clipboard and then play the match.

3. Rescheduling
Every attempt should be made to play the weekly match on the night it is scheduled and at the scheduled time. It's important to come out and play at the scheduled time, but things do come up at the last minute, so we ask everyone to be flexible when it comes to rescheduling a match. If you cannot play at the scheduled time, please contact your opponent to reschedule the game to another time or day. The preference is that you play your game before the designated date and enter the score on the website.

All playoff matches must be completed by the date they are scheduled. As each new round of the playoffs is determined, the previous rounds also become locked in.

FAQ

Q: HOW DOES THE LEAGUE WORK?

A: The RSC League is a recreational and social squash league running weekly at the Regina Squash Centre. The league allows players who barely know which end of the racquet to hold a chance to be on a team, see some good quality squash, get some free coaching and advice from teammates, and meet a bunch of other players at the same level. Two multi-week seasons are run each year, and many players are "drafted" to a team consisting of various skill levels, from juniors and novices to some of the top players in the city. Teams play a round robin, so everyone gets to play many other players at the same level each season. Players move from one level to another based on the results from the previous league. New players are placed in a level based on rankings or an assessment. It is possible to share one spot between two players who are at the same level of play with each player playing roughly half the matches.

Q: WHEN WOULD I PLAY?

A: Each player is scheduled to play one match each week on the designated day for the duration of the season. A scheduled time is given for each week's match and your specific start time varies from round to round. However, it will always be within a roughly three-hour block of time.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

A: Cost per player per season is varies, but that information will be available on the registration page once an upcoming season is created. These fees pay for food and drink each night as well as prizes at the end of the season.

Q: DO I HAVE TO PLAY ON THE SCHEDULED DATE?

A: We prefer that you play on the scheduled date whenever possible. We also encourage people to hang around and socialize afterward. If it's necessary to reschedule a match or two, that is all right, but it should be rescheduled to a time before the scheduled date. (You receive an extra point for playing a match on or before its scheduled date, so scheduling a match after the scheduled date it will cost you a point.) If you don't show up for a match and don't inform your opponent beforehand, you'll be charged with a no show, which results in you and your team receiving a penalty.

Q: HOW CAN FOOD BE PROVIDED FOR EVERYONE?

A: The RSC League receives some Membership Assistance funding, which is mostly used for prizes. More notably, we have generous corporate sponsors who pay to get a rotating ad on our website homepage and within the Member’s Area. Money from our generous official sponsors goes to food, drinks, and prizes. Be sure to check them out!
